Trieste has a remarkable history in a particularly beautiful setting, with a unique combination of shining white rocks and blue sea, surrounded by green hills. With a quiet and lovely, almost Eastern European atmosphere, Trieste has some stunning architecture. The town was, for a while, the residence of famous Irish writer James Joyce.

Once a very influential and powerful centre of politics, literature, music, art and culture, Trieste is now a charming and often underestimated city. Memories and images of the past live on in the streets, from the little alleys that wind through the ancient suburbs with their old houses and ruined walls to the wide central streets that cross the new part of the town with its elegant neo-classical buildings.
